About Pip Robins

Pip Robins Accessories is a handcrafted collection by Gillian Hyde, a designer based out of Nova Scotia, Canada.

About the Cowls

Launched in January 2009, Pip Robins Accessories creates sewn cowls- an alternative to the traditional winter scarf. Shaped like a tube and designed to fit everyone, cowls offer cozy warmth but not awkward bulk. Pip Robins’ cowls are created for both men and women and are sold all over the world; fashion capitals New York, NY and Paris, France are the top international destinations.

Pip Robins Accessories prides itself on creating collections using sustainable materials. Preference is always given to using vintage and reclaimed fabrics in order to lessen the environmental effect of growing and manufacturing new textiles. Due to the nature of the fabric, all cowls are limited edition and often one of a kind, which means you'll probably never bump into someone else wearing the same thing!

Cowls are designed for the masses- emphasizing on simple and elegant designs, everyone from grandmothers to teenage hipsters can, and do, wear cowls.

About the Belt Buckles

Launched in January 2012, Gillian has pushed her creative limits and found a way to use her photo editing skill set to bring a new and exciting accessory line to men and women around the world. Belt buckles are one of her personal favorite accessories, and she quickly fine-tuned the process to create a product that is durable, fashion-forward and again- designed for the masses. New designs are released all the time!

The belt buckles are made with an antique nickle or brass buckle finish and measures 3" x 1-3/4". Fits up to 1-1/2" (3.8 cm) snap belts. The images are printed on leather and sealed with a water-based varnish to make them scratch resistant and waterproof.

About Gillian

Gillian Hyde Pip RobinsGillian Hyde grew up on a farm in rural Nova Scotia. Her childhood consisted of a clean lake, acres of forest, hay fields, an orchard and a well-tended garden, resulting in an appreciation for nature that has never subsided.

At age 17 she left the farm, moved to Ontario for a short stint at an ill-fitting university, and then found her purpose and groove by travelling and living abroad. After graduating at the top of her class from an IT program, she lived and worked in Europe, West Africa, Mexico, across Canada, and the Caribbean.  It wasn’t until her mid-twenties that she finally settled down and moved back to Nova Scotia, where her roots run deep and everything is nautical.

Pip Robins' cowls were born after Gillian saw a man walking in the cold winter wind with a bandana across his face in an attempt to keep warm. She knew there had to be an alternative to traditional scarves that would offer the same stylish look. After brainstorming and a few prototypes, the sewn cowl scarf was born! Gillian is completely self-taught, but has the art of cowl-making down to a fine science.

Gillian spends her days breathing in ocean air (and fog) from the Atlantic Ocean in Halifax. You can find her riding her motorcycle on warm days, volunteering her time as a birth Doula, and rarely leaving her industrial Janome sewing machine’s side.  Vices include: soy chai lattes, cinnamon candy, torrents, skinny jeans, Chuck Taylors and cheap white wine.
