I have many embarrassing photos from my teenage (and early twenties, ahem) years wearing strange clothes and weird hairdos. I am absolutely obsessed with anything nautical, barometers and clocks.
I've lived around much of the world, and love the bread in France, the trees in West Africa, the colour of the water in the Caribbean, the sunshine in the Okanagan Valley, and all waters of the Atlantic ocean.
My mother taught me how to use a sewing machine as a child, and outside of that I'm completely self-taught. There are many bunk projects in the trash. Although new fabric is often cute and desirable, I prefer to rescue vintage fabrics because I love the thrill of the hunt and it means it's not going into the already bursting landfills. Most of the textiles used are fabric remnants or samples that I see potential in and I spend at least an afternoon every week purchasing new fabrics from thrift stores. After a particularly good find, I have a hard time sleeping until I start creating something with it. I make up all of my own patterns, usually on the spot and never follow a template. It's more work, but allows an individual piece every single time!
I blog! And tweet! And Facebook!
